iWellness Exam

Early Detection is Crucial

Sight threatening diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and others often have no outward signs or symptoms, which is why eye exams, including a thorough retinal evaluation, are important to protect vision. In an effort to provide a more thorough eye exam, we are excited to let you know that during your next visit to Burien Eyecare Center, you will experience the benefits of the latest advancement in primary eyecare – the iWellnessExam™ SD- OCT retinal scan as part of our comprehensive eye exams.

iWellness Exam SD-OCT

The iWellness Exam uses breakthrough technology called spectral domain optical coherence tomography or SD-OCT. Similar to an MRI or CT scan, the iWellness Exam captures high definition cross sectional images of your retina, which is the back of your eye, and allows Dr. Bansal to see in unprecedented clarity what may be invisible with traditional examination methods.

Many eye problems can develop without warning and progress without symptoms. In early stages, you may not even notice a change in your vision. But sight threatening conditions and diseases such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and others can be detected with a thorough evaluation of the retina, including the iWellness Exam.

The iWellness Exam is a fast, simple procedure that provides:

* A detailed SD-OCT scan report to show a healthy eye or detect very early signs of disease.
* A retinal thickness map and ganglion cell complex assessment giving Dr. Bansal detailed information simply not available with other methods.
* The opportunity for you to view and discuss your iWellness Exam report with Dr. Bansal at the time of your exam.
* A permanent record for your file, which allows Dr. Bansal to compare your iWellness Exam reports each year to look for changes.

As part of your pre-examination work-up, our technician will perform this test which Dr. Bansal will review with you during your examination. The results of this exam will become a part of your permanent patient record.

Common eye diseases that can be detected with regular iWellness exams

Diabetic Retinopathy is damage to the blood vessels in the retina caused by complications of diabetes mellitus.1 It is a leading cause of blindness and affects 80% of all patients who have had diabetes for 10 years or more.

Glaucoma is a disease in which the nerve fibers suffer damage, permanently impacting vision in the affected eye(s) and progressing to blindness if untreated. It usually develops without obvious symptoms and is called the “sneak thief of sight.” There are 2.29 million American adults with glaucoma, yet 2 million more are estimated to have the disease and do not know it.
